Prologue
In 1876 of mankind’s calendar, a messenger from a higher plane came to the Earth with a grave message. Humanity, having been spared for so long, had failed its many tests. Given centuries to grow, they remained barbaric toward the animals around them and even toward their own brethren. Their race was to be destroyed, but a brave old man stepped forward with a suggestion.

“Great messenger,” he said, “you are right. Humanity must be done away with. But perhaps extinction is not the answer. If you wish us to respect the animals, then perhaps we should live as them.”

The messenger thought about the idea for a moment and decided.

“Humanity shall be remade in the image of the animals that have been wrongfully treated. However, we will be watching. Know that one day I shall return to hand down our judgment and at that time, no man will make us reconsider.”

Without another word, the messenger disappeared in a great flash of fiery light. The light washed over the planet, changing the faces of humanity. Half took the form of dogs, powerful, agile, and cunning. The other half took the form of hawks, light, quick, and unbound by gravity.

As time passed, the words of the messenger were forgotten and a great war of the races broke out and consumed the Era of Animals. In 34 E.O.A., the dogs claimed victory and forced the hawks into servitude.

As time passed, the dogs broke into factions, taking over large parts of the world. In spite of this falling out, the hawks remained their slaves.

Conquering the majority of what was once North America, the Fang Dominion became known for its great numbers and combat tactics, though economic problems slowed the increase and advancement of their military.

Europe and Africa were taken over with almost no resistance by the Dark Fur Legion. Boasting the greatest single landmass, largest economy, and most brilliant minds, the newly renamed continent of Canisera quickly grew to an almost futuristic state with great medical and technological advances. Following their conquest, the Dark Fur Legion cut back on efforts to improve its military.

Taking South America, Australia, and Asia, a faction lacking a name became the largest, both in terms of overall land and population. Building an economy and academic system vastly superior to that of the Fang Dominion but inferior to that of the Dark Fur Legion, they built the world’s second largest military and made medical and technological advances that nearly matched those of Canisera. They then named themselves The Pureblood, claiming to be descendents of the Animist, the man who spoke to the messenger.

Lost were the messengers words, and it would be far too late by the time they were fond again.
